Abrasive Belt Problems

Belt Creases or Folds

Causes Corrections
Belt cone shaped; length dimension differs
  • Check with Taurus for adherence to dimensional specifications

  • If crease angle is always in the same direction, mount belt in the opposite running direction

  • If the crease angle changes direction, the belt is cone shaped

If the crease angle remains the same, check for the following conditions (X-pattern):
Tapered contact roll
  • Redress to remove taper

Contact roll not parallel with idler
  • Make parallel

  • Correct sticky members of belt tensioning idler

Power roll worn, dumbbell shaped center portion
  • Regrind or replace true

Belt tension too high
  • Too high tension will tend to overstretch short length side of belt causing lower belt tension

Build up of sanding dust on contact roll or idler
  • Clean machine frequently

  • Check efficiency of dust collector
