Irregular Surface Finish

 

    

Streaks and/or Ridges on Work Surface 
Causes Corrections
Damaged contact roll or platen, grooved contact roll, damaged felt or graphite canvas cover 
  • Regrind contact roll 

  • Replace felt or graphite cover  

Tramp metal or stones scoring or stripping abrasive belt surface 
  • Loosen abrasive embedded in work piece from previous sanding operation 

  • Change to a new belt 

  • Improve or correct metal removal and material handling or furnish 

  • Improve dust collection 

Foreign matter loading or damaging contact roll, platen cover or belt backing 
  • Redress roll 

  • Recover platen with new graphite  

Damaged, build up or incorrectly set guide bar (results in a streak parallel to the edge of the panel) 
  • Clean guide bar or replace if damaged

Hard spot in felt or worn area in platen cover 
  • Inspect felt, replace and recover platen  

Contact roll wear in some areas caused by running various stock widths 
  • Regrind roll  

Worn or loaded belt 
  • Change to a new belt 

  • Check dust collection
